Silvia Arezzini

I have a degree in mathematics, have practically always carried out computer science activities (programming, systems engineering, project management) and I am a first INFN technologist in service at the Pisa section. I realize my professionalism in the area of Scientific Computing at my site, collaborating in particular with the CMS experiment and the Belle2 experiment, of which in Pisa we manage the related Tier2, and participating in regional projects in partnership with the University of Pisa and with industrial realities in the area.

Much of my work also takes place in groups of the Computing and Networking Commission within which I am the representative for Pisa. In particular, for CCR I follow the activities of Authentication and Authorization (INFN-AAI), those related to security & privacy issues and those related to training.

Privacy is the great protagonist of another of my work activities not localized at headquarters but referring to the whole Entity. In fact, I am part of the DPO (Data Protection Officer) team, the INFN body dedicated to observing, evaluating and organizing the management of the processing of personal data (and therefore their protection). It is a very engaging task that I love and appreciate so much not only because it gives me the opportunity to put all my knowledge to use but also because it allows me a continuous confrontation with the complexity and relevance of all INFN realities.

Since 2016 I have been participating in the European project GENERA, dedicated to overcoming gender barriers in European institutions specializing in physical disciplines: a very nice experience that has allowed me to grow in awareness and knowledge especially in the sociological field.

The awareness of gender issues, prompted me to take part in the two mentoring programs organized as part of INFN training. Being a mentor, with young people next to me who were embarking on their first independent work activities gave me a great boost. I wish every “senior” colleague like me could have this truly enriching experience!

In my personal life, I am married, have a grown son who is a college student, and am a compulsive reader and photography enthusiast. I am not very social… but you can see my photo shots (from tablets…) on Instagram.
