Sabine Hemmer

I’m Sabine, technologist from the Padua Section. I arrived at INFN after a doctorate in astroparticle physics and a research grant in physics teaching. Outreach and dissemination activities have always been my passion, during my studies and even during my doctorate I took every opportunity to communicate my passion for physics and science in general.

So, when the opportunity presented itself I didn’t think twice: since 2016 I have been working for the External Funds Service of the Padua Section, which deals with planning and promotion in the field of external funds and all the outreach and communication activities of the Section. Since 2019 I have been responsible for the Service and together with my colleagues we plan activities for schools and citizens, we support researchers to develop new ideas together to communicate their research and we support those who apply for a call for external funds.

The thing I like most about my job is how varied it is, there is no one day like the other, one activity like the other and I definitely never get bored!

I participated in the mentoring process at a very delicate moment in my career: I was about to become Service Manager, I had a fixed-term contract and I had a very young daughter. The opportunity therefore presented itself at the right time and gave me the opportunity to reflect on important questions, on my position at that moment, the expectations I had for the future and how I could achieve my goals. The work I did alone with the logbook and the discussion with the group and with the mentor helped me a lot to clarify my ideas and feel encouraged and ready to face new challenges.
